Ways You Can Help
At Holy Ground PBC, we believe that small acts of kindness can make a big impact. Our mission, inspired by the Starfish Thrower story, can only be fulfilled with your help! Please consider becoming a mentor, a volunteer, or a supporter. Thank you!
Mentoring At Holy Ground
Our Holy Ground mentors are essential in guiding our young mothers and their children as they develop the self-confidence to make positive changes in their lives. Thanks to the bond you form with them, you will be a key liaison between your young family and Holy Ground staff, helping to keep staff apprised of the changing needs of both the mother and her child(ren).
Volunteering at Holy Ground
We invite you to join our community of Holy Ground Starfish Thrower Volunteers. Your time, talent or treasure can help to change the lives of the young families in our care.
Holy Ground Mentorship
Mentorship at Holy Ground PBC goes beyond just offering advice; it’s about forming a supportive relationship that fosters the young family’s growth and development. Our Holy Ground mentors travel the entire journey with these young mothers, as they learn to trust in our program and ultimately see improvements in their lives and the lives of their children.
The moms who join our program are often fearful, unsure of themselves, and may have trust issues. Many, if not all, have suffered adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). One of the reasons that Holy Ground was designed as a long-term program is that it can sometimes take years for them to learn to trust in our process, our program, and our Holy Ground family. Once they understand that we have their back, and they begin to see small successes in their lives – and especially in the lives of their children – they really begin to blossom! Their progress accelerates, and their successes get bigger and more frequent. Even more important, as our young moms begin to change their lifestyles for the better, they model these healthy behaviors for their children. This is the beginning of generational change, which is a key goal of our program.
As a mentor, you will be a critical part of this process. Would you like to help these young mothers become healthy, stable, and productive members of our Palm Beach County community?

How Does It Work?
If you are considering becoming a mentor, please contact us to obtain a copy of our Holy Ground Mentor packet.
Our vision is that, with your emotional support, guidance, tough love – and plenty of patience! – your mentee will ultimately feel empowered to progress personally, socially, and professionally throughout her time with Holy Ground. Our mentors who have watched these transformations take place can tell you – it is a deeply rewarding and heartwarming experience!
Step 1
You will be contacted by one of our mentor coordinators, who will review the packet with you and answer any questions you many have. When you are ready, we hope you will decide to join our mentor team. If so, welcome to the family!
Step 2
You will then receive a training session, meet others who are also volunteering as mentors, and be matched with one of our moms
After
We ask that you meet regularly – either virtually or in person – with the mother and child(ren) with whom you’ve been paired, to offer advice, encouragement, and perhaps transportation if needed. We also encourage you to attend our monthly mentor meetings, held on the second Tuesday evening of each month at our campus in Lake Park.
Holy Ground Volunteer
In addition to mentoring, Holy Ground offers many other opportunities to volunteer, depending on your interests and availability. Preparation for our annual luncheon and auction fundraiser each January starts months in advance – we would welcome your assistance in planning the event, collecting auction items, or lending a hand during the event itself.
We would also be delighted if you were willing to offer your expertise to our board of directors or one of our committees. Other opportunities include tutoring, baby sitting, transportation, or joining the welcome team when a new mom enters the program. Please see the volunteer form for additional options.
