Sharing our bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless, clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own. – Isaiah 58:7

Ambassador of Peace
National recognition for our Phyllis!! Over the weekend, Phyllis Turner Jepson was honored by Pax Christi USA during their annual national conference, and commissioned as an “Ambassador of Peace”. Pax Christi Ambassadors are recognized, at key moments in Pax Christi’s history, for being “extraordinary and experienced leaders” who have made significant contributions toward “nonviolence, peacemaking, reconciliation and justice” and who are “living embodiments of what it means to live a life rooted in the ‘peace of Christ’.”
In her tribute to Phyllis, Nancy Small, former national coordinator of Pax Christi USA, commended her for how Phyllis “grew [their] grassroots network exponentially, building lasting relationships… all across the US.” During her ten years working at the national office, Phyllis and her husband, Milt, traveled across the country, visiting all of Pax Christi’s regional offices and many of their local chapters. She also traveled to Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp on peace missions. Phyllis had also previously served as the State Coordinator for Pax Christi Florida.
Phyllis was one of four out of over 14,000 members of Pax Christi USA to receive this exceptional honor. Those of us who know her are not at all surprised – she is truly deserving of this national recognition! This is just one more reminder of how blessed Holy Ground is to have Phyllis working on behalf of our organization and our young families.
Huge congratulations to our Phyllis!!
Holy Ground mourns the loss of Father Seamus Murtagh,
who was the inspiration for our program.
Father Seamus believed deeply that we are called to serve during our lifetimes, and he had a special love for the homeless, about whom he said:
When you’re standing
in front of a homeless person,
you’re standing on holy ground.
Father Seamus, you remain forever in our hearts.
Why we so strongly believe in Holy Ground’s long-term, independent living model:
This 5-minute video depicts a theory of change from the Frontiers of Innovation community for achieving breakthrough outcomes for vulnerable children and families. It describes the need to focus on building the capabilities of caregivers and strengthening the communities that together form the environment of relationships essential to children’s lifelong learning, health, and behavior.
